Just a stinkin' cute picture of our sweet boy!

In an effort to try to rid Corbin of diaper rash/eczema breakouts, we are trying a new diaper. 'G' diapers are a kind of diaper that is a 'hybrid' between a cloth diaper and a disposable. It has a cloth outer covering and has a flushable insert. The great thing is you just flush the mess down to toilet! So no more stinky diaper pails! You have to rip the sides of the inserts and make sure the inner core goes in the toilet and break it up with the provided stirring stick.

I really like them but Jason doesn't like dealing with the dirty ones. I have told him he can just put them in the trash. These diapers are biodegradable which is great for the environment. I am totally used to dealing with dirty diapers etc. I have younger siblings/worked in preschools and mother's day out settings and have helped change diapers and potty train kids. Not to mention that I have to change pull-ups/diapers with my job almost everyday because some of my students aren't potty trained.


Father's Day

Jason had a wonderful Father's Day! (at least I would like to think he did!) We went swimming at his Dad's house! (side note:Corbin is quite the little fish in the water and even let's Jason put him underwater. He kicks and blows bubbles. Since our little fish loves swimming so much we have signed him up for swimming lessons! ) For dinner we went to Texas Roadhouse with my parents and family! We had a great time!

Jason, you are my best friend and a wonderful father! I love how you are so involved with raising our son and get so excited when he does something new and exciting! I love how he loves his Dada so much and has such an incredible bond with you even though he will NOT say MAMA! (little stinker thinks its hilarious when he is perfectly capable of saying 15-20 words and some two word phrases already and he will NOT say Mama! He just laughs!)
I love seeing Corbin pick up a bag and imitate you going to work and say "Bye Dada, MWAH" at least 20 times a day and it never fails to make me smile every time!

Corbin has really been growing up so much lately. He loves imitating Jason and I like crazy all the time. Just this morning I was reading Corbin a firetruck book and I made the firetruck noise and he did the noise! So cute! This age is so fun, we love seeing our sons personality shine through. I thank God everyday for our sweet little boy!

First Screen Test

On Tuesday Jason and I went for the First Screen test for Down's syndrome. It is an ultrasound where they measure the fluid collection under the babies neck. Jason was actually able to go this time. He was not able to go to this test when I was pregnant with Corbin because he had just started working at National Instruments a few months before and wasn't able to take time off work. I have elected to have this test done with both babies just so we could be more prepared and get the baby services if it did come back positive for Down's syndrome. I would love my child no matter what God decided we could handle.

Jason and I left the test with a sad feeling though. The ultrasound lady was very unprofessional. We are sitting there getting this test done for Down's syndrome and the lady is saying "Oh I don't know what I would do if I had a Down's syndrome child, I would rather have a child with Trisomy 18 and know that they wouldn't live." Jason and I are just sitting there thinking "ummm what?" I tried explaining to her that I am a special ed teacher and I just wanted to know so we could be prepared and seek medical advice and get our child on waiting lists for services etc. I guess everyone has their own thoughts on their children and wanting the prefect child. I mean most of my students parents I am sure had no idea their child was autistic or had some disability or wanted that card dealt to them. I have always been of the mindset TO GET YOUR CHILD SERVICES! Early intervention whether it is speech therapy or physical therapy can be crucial.

Ok getting off my soap box now. Corbin wasn't allowed in the room so my mom spent the day watching Corbin and he had a great time! Jason and I also cleaned out the study. Jason has been off work all week and has been doing some much needed cleaning/improvements to the house. Jason and my brothers constructed a platform out of pavers for our new grill in the backyard. He also rearranged the garage so it functions a lot better! We love having Jason home and Corbin and I are really going to miss him during the day.

Big News: Our Early Christmas Present ... BABY # 2!!!

We are expecting a wonderful Christmas gift this year! Corbin is going to be a big brother! I am due December 14th although the baby will be here a week sooner though because my doctor won't let me go past 39 weeks because of my previous C-section.

I won't know if I will be having another C-section or not. My doctor says that research states its ok to have a VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section). I don't feel so comfortable with this as you are more likely to tear your uterus and it could put the baby and Mommy in danger. That risk alone scares me.

I don't know how Corbin is going to feel about a sibling. He loves the babies at daycare but the other day when Jason and I were cuddling, he got very upset. Oh well I think he will be a GREAT big brother! He is so loving and caring, its just something he will have to get used to!

We have already been frantically cleaning out the guest bedroom which will either be Corbin's big boy room or a baby girls nursery. If we have another boy, Corbin will get moved to the guest bedroom. He will get a big boy bed! Once we find out what we're having at the end of July/early August we will decorate the guest bedroom.

We can't wait to meet our new little baby!

15 month check-up and Mommy's little helper!

On Friday we went to Corbin's 15 month check-up. Jason and I were hoping Corbin would be like 22 lbs or so. Ever since I stopped nursing him over a month ago, he eats a lot. But alas, he inherited our high metabolisms and was 20 lbs 13 oz, which means he is still in the 5-10 percentile! He is 29 3/4 inches long.

Our pediatrician said now that he was over 20 lbs we could legally have him forward facing in his car seat! UH OH! We've had him forward facing since he was a year! Dr. Owens said that they actually recommend having the child backwards facing until almost 2 because their necks are better supported. She said that there was no way that Corbin would want to be backwards facing in his car seat again now that hes forward facing. So we will do this with our next child.

Corbin was not happy by the end of the visit. He had to get three shots, the MMR, Hib A, and the chicken pox vaccine. Jason and I had been debating on whether or not we should do the MMR because of parents claiming its links to Autism. But after talking extensive to our old pediatrician, Dr. Aiello, (he's semi-retired and only works 2 days a week so we go to Dr. Owens) and my Dad, a physician, they both said that research claims after extensive studies there is no link. Poor Corbin screamed and cried so much! Jason and I felt awful! We had to fight back tears seeing our little guy hurting like that! To make matters worse he needed to get a finger prick to see his hemoglobin levels because when he went to see the Dr. at the end of April when he was sick, his levels were low. He kept saying "bye-bye," because he really wanted to leave! I don't blame him! He was so DONE with the doctor by the time we left!


Yesterday morning I was cleaning the house and Corbin decided to help mop the floor! He was very upset when I had to take the mop away! He liked cleaning!

unmotivated

I have been so unmotivated to blog lately with the school year almost over. I have been staying at work until like 5:30 most days to try to get things accomplished. I still don't feel like I am getting anything done and there are only 12 school days left! Work is just a mess. I have been really stressed out lately because I have no idea where four of my students are going next year for lifeskills placements and keep having push back their transition ARDs.

Last Monday I decided I had had enough of staying late and needed to go play with my son. He deserves it after being in daycare until 5:30 most days and then when I get home I am super tired. So Monday I left work at 4:30 and took Corbin to our neighborhood park. He loves going there and sliding down the slide. This boy LOVES being outside.

Our little guy is really talking ALOT lately. He babbles a lot of the time but somtimes he surprises you. Whenever I would put him on the slide I always say "1,2,3, weee." Well Corbin started saying "three." Then the other night when we were in the back year with Jason and Kylie (dog), Corbin and I were throwing her tennis balls. I did my same "1,2,3," and then threw the ball. Well a few seconds later Corbin clearly says "1, 2, 3." Jason and I just stared at each other in disbelief asking each other "umm did he just say 1,2, 3?" Then Kylie was walking by Corbin and knocked him down and I said "Get back" to her very sternly. So Corbin goes around all the time telling her to "get back" in a stern voice. This kid is the king of imitation lately! I guess at daycare the other day Corbin's girlfriend Emily was throwing a tantrum and Corbin stopped playing toys and went over to her and threw himself on the ground and started imitating her!

On Tuesday Corbin turned 15 months. This age is so fun but it does come with some trials. For example every time we go the store like Target, or Central Market, Corbin wants to walk everywhere and not where I want him to go. He is all boy and very curious and wants to explore everything. So he gets upset when I try to pick him up and carry him. So it makes shopping all that much harder. So I have resorted to going shopping only with Jason! Its funny because I got an email about 15 month olds development etc and it was really funny because everything they talked about Corbin does like not wanting to be in a stroller, shopping cart because they want to be independent and walk around everywhere it was so true!

Waiting with Daddy to have the nurse come in and tell us about pre-op procedures. They never came... until the doctor came and wanted to take Corbin back and we said "the nurse never came." So we had to do the pre-op paperwork really fast. I love this picture! My boys looks so cute together!

Corbin had quite an eventful Friday morning. We had to be at the surgery center to check in at 6 am so Jason and I had to wake up at 4:30, NOT FUN! We woke Corbin up right before we left and got him dressed.

We had to wait to have Corbin's surgery because Dr. Scholl had to do the same procedure on little girl before they did Corbin. The nurse gave Corbin some stickers so when it was his time to take him back he was perfectly content having the nurse hold him while he looked at his stickers!
It was amazing that there were about 7 or 8 other kids around Corbin's age who were all having the same procedure done. That just goes to show you how drug resistant some of these superbugs are.

While Corbin was in the recovery room Dr. Scholl came to talk to us. During the procedure Dr. Scholl discovered Corbin had a right ear infection. He had just finished his 10 day antibiotics for a double ear infection the night before. So this surgery was a blessing in disguise. Corbin had had 6 ear infections in a matter of six months so it was much needed!


For the past week or more Corbin has been sleeping in his own bed. When we went to the first ENT appointment the nurse told us Corbin couldn't eat past midnight. I knew right then and there that he would HAVE to start sleeping in his bed and lets face it... IT was time! Corbin was still waking up at most 5 or 6 times a night to nurse. Every time he gets in bed with us the first thing he wants to do is nurse. So I have also stopped nursing Corbin as well. He is doing pretty well with both transitions. A few nights were rough and he woke up for several hours crying and I would have to give him a bottle. However, last night he slept all night without waking up! I had to go in and check on him twice to make sure he was ok.

The next thing to phase out on our list... Bottles. I didn't want to do all three transitions at once. So I will be working on phasing out the bottles this summer because in the toddler class at daycare he can only have sippy cups. He loves sippy cups but mainly only with water in them.

Corbin has also started to sign "eat","all done", "baby," and "more." He is hilarious with Kylie and calls her "baby" sometimes!
