First official crawl... and more??

For the past couple of weeks, Corbin's been extremely mobile - though he wasn't quite doing an actual crawl just yet. He started by learning how to get up on his hands and knees and wobble back and forth (my mom said I used to do that a bunch too when I was first learning to crawl). Then, Corbin realized from there he could simply move his arms forward and then pull himself forward, basically dragging his legs whether they were propped up on his knees or slumped down. Then just over a week ago he learned that this whole process of moving would be much easier if he brought one knee forward (his right one). He hadn't quite got the hang of moving his left knee.

Well last night, when we went to MacKenzie's parent's house so they could get ready to leave for Kansas the following morning, we plopped him down to show MacKenzie's dad how his progress was going. And then there it was - he had finally gained control of his left knee and did about 3 full crawl movements, moving both arms and knees at the correct times... I think it startled him a bit because he basically had jolted forward and was like "What the?! how did I get over here so quickly??" Unfortunately I don't have any pictures just yet since MacKenzie took the camera with her on their trip :)

After this, he was incredibly anxious to get moving even more. So much so that he went from hands-and-knees to hands-and-feet as his legs pushed his body up even more. Not only that, but he was able to pull himself up to his feet by bracing his body on one of Aunt Merritt's bags - but only for a bit.

I'm a little torn by all this. On one hand, I love seeing Corbin learn how to be so mobile, and I love seeing his wide eyes and huge smile when he's wiggling and crawling around the floor. But on the other hand, it feels like the little baby we have is growing up crazy fast. And yes, we've had tons of people and relatives warn us how quickly the time goes by. I just hope he's not the one driving everyone back when they get back from their vacation!

Mommy and Daddy got me this really super cool bathtub at HEB the other night. When you squeeze the bill the ducky quacks! It is so cute!

Friday night at the disco

Friday night we went to our friends house, Sarah and Dave's. We brought over some luggage for them to borrow for their trip to Ireland. Sarah is going to beautiful Ireland for her sisters wedding. (Sarah you MUST take a ton of pictures so I can live vicariously through your adventures!)

We had a great time enjoying beer while Connor and Corbin played! Thanks Sarah, Dave and Connor for having us over!

Strawberry Fields Forever

Last week Daddy was eating a strawberry Popsicle and I really wanted some of it! I got my first taste of the sweet yumminess. After Jason gave Corbin that first taste he only wanted MORE! Our little guy is so funny and is really interested in 'real' food! By the way, Daddy ate most of the popsicle I just had a few tastes!

6.5 hours...

Is how long Corbin slept in his crib (yes, you read it right... CRIB) last night. I was reading about sleeping for infants in our Baby 411 book that Minor recommended to us. (Love it by the way, Minor, thank you!) It said that babies 5 months can sleep seven hours at night without eating and that six months old can sleep 12 hours without needing to eat.... it you teach them to. This was an astonishing fact for me because Corbin has been waking up two or three times to eat since birth! We decided to have him try to sleep in his crib. So as Jason and I were desperately trying to find the manual to lower his crib, we put him in his room and let him cry it out. It was a VERY hard 30-40 minutes listening to him cry. I told Jason that I needing something to do because listening to him cry was killing me. Jason and I started going through all our junk in the study because we thought we had thrown away the manual. Well we ended up finding it buried in the closet in a file box.

It was really hard for me to sleep without cuddling with Corbin all night. Although I know it is best for him to sleep in his crib. Truth be told that he slept a lot better by himself. For about a week now he has been getting about 3-4 times a night crying, I tried rocking him, and holding him etc and the only way I could get him to stop was to nurse him. Well, last night he slept from 9:30pm- 3:15am without waking up. I didn't sleep as well because I kept getting up and checking on him. He did wake up at 3:15 though and nursed and then I just had him sleep with us. Then he did wake up several times after that crying. I think tonight I am going to have to brave it and just take him back to the crib to sleep once he wakes up.

This is all bittersweet for me because going back to work I was wanting to have that cuddle time with Corbin because he is going to daycare and I won't get to see/be with our baby as much. I know in my heart it is the right thing for both of us and I need to stop being selfish. Ok gotta run Corbin needs a nap, hopefully in the car. We are going to my Mom's house because she is coming with us while I get my haircut to watch Corbin. Yay thanks Mimi!

Uh Oh ....

it looks like we are going to have to move the crib mattress down! Today Corbin had one of his almost daily blow outs that required a bath and Mommy had to go throw his clothes in the wash. So I put him in his crib and went to put his clothes in the washer. I found him on his knees grabbing the bumper! Being the wonderful Mommy that I am I had to run get my camera. (Well, I had to show Jason what our wonderful son was up to while I was washing his clothes!)

This is how I found him when I was walking by his room with a basket of clean laundry.

"What Mommy? I am not doing anything wrong?! See my sneaky, cute smile?"

This is a picture I took this morning of Corbin pushing my pregnancy pillow (we use it as a barrier so Corbin won't go on the linoleum)(well forget that!) as Corbin scooted across the floor.

Boys will be boys

Last weekend we invited some friends over for dinner and to get our little guys together. All three of our boys were born within a week of each other. Minor and Sarah's little boy, Sawyer was born on February 7. Sarah and Dave's little boy, Connor was born on February 15. Its was so much fun to see what five month olds have in common. Connor and Sawyer are all beating Corbin in the weight department!
