I love you Daddy!

Cuddling with Daddy one night before bed! (Crappy picture from my iphone... the camera was downstairs.)

Happy to see Daddy when he got home from work!

"I love you Daddy!"

"Hey Dad, look over there!"

Recently Corbin has been really into Jason! Its so cute to see Corbin get excited to see Daddy when he gets home from work or hear him say "Dada." I love seeing him share a special bond with his Daddy! Jason cannot wait to get Corbin a Brio train set and play with Corbin when he is older, or play soccer or video games with him. There are some things as a woman I will never understand like the video game obsessions that men have. But I love that Jason is such an involved father and cannot wait to do all these things with our son!

We love you Daddy!

New views on life

Look at me in my big boy car seat! "Wow, so that's what Mom and Dad do while I am back here: they drive."

Yesterday we decided to turn Corbin's car seat around. He turns one on Thursday and his poor little feet kept getting smashed on the back seat of the car.
Corbin loves his new view on the car. Last night as Jason was driving us to dinner, Jason would turn around and look at Corbin and he thought it was hilarious to be able to see Daddy.

Big boy! Our sweet baby is getting so big!

"So I start out like this..."

Our little man is trying his best to start walking. Friday night while playing on the floor he would be in a seated position then all of the sudden would pull himself up to a straddle. It was hilarious to watch! Corbin tried to do this like 10 times.

"...and then AHH HAA! I am almost there! How do I pull up my top half?"

Corbin has learned how to take his arms out of his shirt!

Just a cute picture from dinner the other night! :)

Girls weekend in Dallas + my Dad!

Over the weekend my sisters and my parents went to Dallas to celebrate Merritt's 24th birthday! I was actually sans Corbin for the weekend. Let me tell you it was HARD to leave my baby for the first time (for more than a few hours) since he was born. I knew, however, he was in great hands with Jason. Jason and Corbin had a father/son bonding weekend.

My family and I had a great time in Dallas. It was nice to go back to our "roots" and hang out again with just our family without husbands or kids (well, Morgan came because she is still only almost four months and nursing a lot.) My sisters and I shopped our hearts out. We ate a ton of yummy food. We got Sprinkles cupcakes! SOO YUMMY!

We are hoping to make this a yearly trip. My brother Brenton would come next year too if he can stand all the shopping which I don't think a teenage boy would! But we can try to convince him!

It was so nice to remember what "me" time is again. I realized that I love my life with Corbin and Jason but I need to start doing something for myself. I think this summer I am finally going to make use of the yoga mat Jason gave me for Christmas and take a yoga class.

I had a great time with my family in Dallas and can't wait for next year and my Dad's big 6-0 birthday!

L to R: Me, Merritt, and Carrie at lunch! The sisters together :)

My Dad at Sprinkles... he was so amused that he could stand under the ceiling here!

The deliciousness that is SPRINKLES! We need one in Austin!

First Words!

Lately Corbin has started to say some words with meaning. On our cruise, while in Jamacia, Corbin learned how to say 'Hi' while waving. He waves and says "hiiiiiiiiii" (its the best I can do on a blog... hearing him say it is so adorable!) He also says "uh oh." He learned by imitating me when he drops something and I always say "uh oh."

We have tried the whole signing thing and Corbin doesn't seem interested. I talked to my mom about it because some of Corbin's friends are signing and Corbin isn't. She said that well maybe he is a different kind of learner and is an auditory learner and he isn't a visual learner or he isn't ready to sign yet. Corbin is more verbal and is always talking. I mean our child babbles constantly. Its really wonderful to hear his little voice all day. I have to say its one of the best sounds in the world. Especially when he wants "Momma" and starts saying my name! I love it!

Corbin was sick on Thursday so Momma stayed home with him. Our child always smiles even when he is under the weather. We love that sweet smile! :)

Cruise to the Carribean!

Just got on the ship... looking out our window... Corbin loved to stare at the ocean!

Muster drill... required by maritime law... Life vests and all. I told Jason we need to have a baby next we go on a cruise. It was super cold and the crew let us go in this lounge during the drill so Corbin was warm! We got to miss the drill.

Jason looking super excited to be in his lifevest.

Corbin on the other hand, HATED IT! There was no way I could carry a baby with a life vest and wearing one myself. We took it right off after we saw how miserable he was!

My napkin hat!

Yummy my orange sherbet!

We let Corbin play with Uncle Ryan's coleslaw one day and he had a great time!

While on the cruise we discovered Corbin loves a few new not so healthy foods. He definitely got his Momma's sweet tooth! I was in the process of weaning him from breastfeeding because of the pregnancy. So he would only eat Fruit Loops (I was not so happy about this I wanted to hold off on the fake dyes for a few years), orange sherbet, yogurt (which is healthy!),and maybe a few bites of pancake. He would have formula during the day and breast milk at night. I think he gained a few pounds while on the trip, which is good, maybe he will be in a higher percentile instead of 10-25% for weight when we go to his 12 month checkup.

Corbin played "guess where the cork is"... he didn't like it so much! He started crying a few times because all our family was looking at him. Hey he is like his momma, stress under pressure!

Corbin liked playin on the floor of our cabin!

Corbin and I rode the glass elevator all the way to the top! He loved it! I am so glad he didn't get Jason's fear of heights and I can have someone to ride roller coasters with later in life.

Cute picture of Jason and Corbin!

Our sweet baby! Who has 5 teeth now... I think he is working on a sixth!

My babywearing little guy! That carrier was a lifesaver... we bought a cheapy umbrella stroller and he HATED it! He was super clingy to me the whole trip, he would barely go to Jason. Eventually he started going to Daddy, thankfully!

Oh how I wish we were back there!

Every night we had a different towel animal. The last night we were greeted with this cute monkey that Corbin loved.

Corbin's First Christmas

I know this post is a bit overdue... but we went on a cruise the week after Christmas and the huge amounts of laundry and sheer exhaustion of going back to work have kept me from posting about Corbin's first Christmas. Our little guy christened Christmas morning with a diaper that required him to take a bath! He was not able to wear the adorable jammies that my mom got him for Christmas morning.

I made Jason take video of Corbin and I coming down the stairs. I have fond memories of being half asleep walking down the stairs with my brothers and sisters while my dad, being a cheeseball, saying he didn't think Santa had come! (He even did this even when we were older. Oh I love my Dad!) I think Corbin will appricate the memories later!

Corbin didn't really know what to make of Christmas. He didn't know what to do with the paper. We can't wait to see what Christmas is like with Corbin next year!

Our little guy wanted to go see his toys and not take a bath!

Corbin exploring all the presents under the tree!

"This one looks good!"

"Wow these are all for me!"

New Year Blues

I wasn't going to write about this and get too personal on the blog, but this is a sort of online diary on the happenings of our family. I read a lot of infertiltiy/multiple birth b/c of infertilty blogs and I now understand how they have felt posting and exposing their personal struggles on a blog. I feel that I need to share this... I have realized that it has only helped my sadness to talk about this heartbreaking personal experiance.

Well the Ziaja Family had quite the interesting Christmas holiday. The day after Christmas we found out that I was pregnant. Then New Year's Eve day, the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage or what they call a chemical pregnancy (basically a very early miscarriage.) five days later, while in Jamaica. We went to the onboard doctor who wanted to make sure it was not a ectopic pregnancy (fertilized egg in the Fallopian tube... I would have had to fly back home immediately and have surgery to remove the egg.) and we had to get clearance to come back on board to the ship. Onboard if I were to have severe bleeding they don't have the resources to deal with that. So we had to go into Jamaica and wait half the day in a clinic and get an ultrasound. It turned out I didn't have an ectopic pregnancy and they couldn't find any traces of baby on the ultrasound... but I was only barely four weeks and it was too early to tell anyways. It was a very scary experience. Both the onboard doctor and the doctor at the clinic both asked me why I took a test so early. At the time I was a little upset and insulted to be asked this question. I simply said I knew I was pregnant. I found out super early, but I had all the signs and symptoms. I also had my own personal sign because didn't want any alcohol on Christmas which was one of my first clues.... I didn't want alcohol the night I found out I was pregnant with Corbin.

This has been an emotional roller coaster for Jason and I. We had made all these plans with the hopes of this new baby. I was going to stay home for a year because the baby would have been due at the beginning of September. We were finally going to sell this house and move up to North Austin so we could be closer to Jason's work.

UPDATE: (I wrote this on Monday the 5th and finally decided I was brave enough to post this today, the 10th.) I had a blood test at Dr. Kuhlmann's and the nurse called me back yesterday (Friday), to say that everything was "taken care of" and my HcG levels were back to normal and they don't need to do anything else. I was finally was getting to the point to where I was busy and not sitting here dwelling that my body 'rejected' our baby and I wish I hadn't got that call.

The question we keep getting from our family and a few friends that knew is "Are you all going to try again soon?" Since the pregnancy was a shock to us , I now have "baby fever." I would love to try again soon. Jason has a different view he wants our family to have a firm financial grounding before we try again. So basically no, since it takes two people to want the baby, it will be awhile before we try again. I guess if I am honest with myself as well, I don't want to be 28 and basically be finished having our family. Jason and I were excited though that we will be our mid 40's by the time Corbin and the new baby would be in college and we would have an empty nest. We've also decided that we aren't going to take Corbin growing up for granted and cherish every moment we have with him because we are so blessed to have him in our lives. This truely opened my eyes to how many things can happen when trying (or NOT trying as in our case and we had our surprise) to have a baby and we are so lucky to have Corbin.

I don't think we could have gotten through this without the love and support of our family. I know we only knew for five days but it was still a hard blow to take. Our families are wonderful and it makes me feel so blessed to know we have such a wonderful support system.
