Dentist appointments and more

On Wednesday we went to the dentist. Corbin and I got our teeth cleaned! Corbin did a great job!! He had two dark spots on his back molars that we need to make sure to get. Hopefully we didn't get the curse of super deep grooves in our teeth like our mom. My niece Morgan had three cavites last visit because she has really deep grooves and no amount of brushing can help.

After Grayson saw his big brother in the dentist chair he was very brave and was a champ and Kathy (my step mom in law is a dental hygienist)looked at his teeth. The dentist freaked me out and showed me Grayson's super horrible jet overbite. Wow its bad! As a mommy of whom my first child did not self soothe and] my second sucked his thumb I was grateful. Now I am freaked because he has such a bad overbite. I talked about it with the dentist and he said that if he doesn't stop sucking his thumb he can put a bar on the top of his mouth that won't allow his thumb to go up there and screw up his little mouth!

The boy are starting to be able to allow me to shop/take them places and be a big helpers. Corbi used to run off, scary! Then we would have a huge tantrum about getting in the cart. Before we went to the dentist we had to go to target because Grayson had soaked through his diaper and we needed pants that fit (the ones at daycare were too small). The boys listened to my instructions and stayed with me and walked with me quickly through Target! It was so nice.

This morning!

Grayson gets ear tubes

Last Friday, Grayson got his ear tubes put in. Wow, how did I NOT remember when we took Corbin to get his ear tubes about having to wake up at 3:45 in order to get there by 5:15? Maybe because last time I had just found out I was pregnant with Grayson and was so exhausted from being newly pregnant that I didn't remember. Gosh was it hard to wake up just 45 minutes earlier then my usual work wake up time! It was very emotional for me because he was so upset when they took him back I started crying. To top things off I was already a basket case because my parents are out of town and damnit I just needed my Mom that and the fact that Corbin got sick in the car on the way home on Thursday (totally my fault I didn't have the A/C on bc I was freezing and I think he got overheated! Yes, I know I am not winning any Mother of the year awards over here!! I felt horrible about it! He did have a slight fever after that like 101 but when we took him to Jason's dads house they said the next day he didn't have a fever, siblings were not allowed to come with us to the surgery, just ones in-utero, like Grayson was when Corbin got his ear tubes!!:))

The nurse took Grayson back at 6:30 and by 6:40 they came back and said he was fine! The nurse assured me that when she had taken Grayson back for the surgery after a few seconds Grayson calmed down and snuggled into the nurse. He had to be in recovery for about 10 minutes and when they brought him back he was sleepy but then SUPER SUPER cranky and fussy!! Wow every time Jason got him to stop crying and almost get back to sleep the nurse had to come in and get his vitals! ANNOYING! Other than that everything went well and we were released at like 8 am! Grayson came home and played all day. He was SUPER wobbly though. The nurse warned us that the anestheisa would be in his system for 24 hours and boy was it! He was so wobbly and he kept falling down all day. He said goodbye to the anesthesia the next morning by falling down three stairs! I woke up to the sound of him falling/crying. :( Corbin had woken up and gotten Grayson out of his room to come get us up like they do every weekend!

The right thing

Not sure why this entire post is underlined! UGH!

As I stay home with a sick baby today it reminds me once again that we are doing the right thing.
On the 27th of this month our youngest baby will go through the same procedure as his older brother. Something that plagues the Talbott side of my family. (I had ear tubes, my sister Carrie should have had them but wasn't really done in the 70's much, and my dad should have had them and as a result cannot hear high pitched noises because he lost some of his hearing from having repeated ear infections.) He will be getting ear tubes put in just like his older brother.

Poor Grayson has a double ear infection, which makes upset because I should have made his appointment right after seeing our ENT at the end of December. I cannot help but think I caused this ear infection by not acting sooner and only making his appointment to get the tubes put in sooner. Now today I am home with a clingy baby who only wants his Momma to hold him, which I am NOT complaining about!

I am trying to be a better Mommy. I am trying to not let the stresses of life get me so riled up. I went for my annual appointment yesterday and had to up my anxiety meds. It was quite interesting telling my almost 4 year old that no he cannot come to Mommy's appointment, I took half a day off of work and dropped Corbin off at home with Daddy, who was taking care of Gray. When I explained that it was only for girls, lets just say I was very blunt and told him, that no it was not a teeth cleaning and what it really was. I knew he would keep bothering me and crying until I told him why he really couldn't go. He said he wouldn't look! It was kinda funny. We are going for a teeth cleaning in a couple of weeks with my step mom in law and he thought I was going to the dentist.

Along with being a better mommy I am trying to feed my kids things without preservatives. Last night made homemade "goldfish" crackers. Jason and Corbin loved the homemade crackers. I have also started making homemade vanilla yogurt in my yogurt maker. The boys and Jason totally love it and its super easy! There is far less sugar and I feel good about serving it to our boys. Its especially delicious with my homemade granola!

Dear Blog

Dear Blog,

So sorry you have been neglected lately. Life is getting in the way of blogging! I only seem to have enough energy to post about the boys and if I happen to plop in a photo from my iphone then well we call it good!

This driving back and forth to South Austin is taking a toll of me and my boys! Waking up at 4:30 is only made possible thanks to a few cups of strong coffee! Poor Corbin is getting in trouble a lot at school for not listening, being too hyper, etc and I truly believe that this is in part because we wake them up at 5:30-5:45 daily. Also he is trying HARD to give up his nap! I can't tell you how many times he falls asleep on our hour ride home. My child does NOT do well without a nap! Thats when all his "interesting" misbehaviors come out, i.e. not listening, the hyperness etc. I cannot even being to tell you how stressed I am all the time as well. I have to make sure I leave work by 3:30 to make sure that we aren't sitting in traffic for more than an hour. Also work has been difficult lately, with behavior stuff that makes me even more stressed, but I won't get into that on here.

Sorry, blog, for this huge "bitchfest!" I am truly trying to stay positive but I feel like our day to day life is suffering sometimes because I am so tried all the time from this commute. I am just looking forward to spending the next week and a half with my husband, who is off these next two weeks!, and my family! So excited my sister, Merritt, is coming in town today!

BTW the Taylor Swift song called "Never Grow Up" has had me in tears thinking of our boys! I have said numerous times, as impractical it is that I would love if they stayed this little forever. I am seriously going to miss Corbin and Mommy "snuggle times' before bed! I am going to miss Grayson saying "water too"(he adds the word too to almost everything he wants)." and asking for 'apple juice' aka orange juice a million times a day or "where we going?' whenever we get in the car! We love listening to "without you" by David Guetta its his favorite song! He sings the "without you" part all the time! He loves music and loves to sing!

sweetest inbox message

Yesterday my Dad sent me the sweetest email about 2 twin girls who were the smallest to survive and one was 1/2 lb in 1989! He told me I was his biggest miracle! Totally made my day! ( If you don't know I am a surviving twin and weighted 1 1/2 lbs in 1981!) We had less than a 5% chance of survival. I am so blessed to have parents who have supported me since a physically, emotionally trying birth with my sister Morgan and I. I cannot imagine having twins, my mom was my age, 30, and then go through all that trama and then be told you may lose both of them. I have an amazing husband, parents, and family!

Kids say the darndest things!

The boys are at it again, saying silly things all the time! The joys of being parents! They definitely make my day brighter if I've had a bad day at school!

*Grayson loves to spot "icky Mouse" aka Mickey Mouse, when we are out at places like Target!
*One day when the boys were sick on the way home from the doctor I stopped at Terra Burger and got them a kids burger and skim milk. Now, we drink exclusively almond milk at our house for the past year and a half. So when Corbin took a big drink he asked me why there was water in his milk!
*One day when we were at Jason's dads house we had them watch the boys while we ran errands. We came back for dinner and Tori showed me a dry erase board where Corbin had written Tori's name all by himself with only her telling him the letters of her name. Apparently Corbin can write his name on his own too! This was news to me! Oh, the life of a working Momma!

*Corbin's class was learning all about families and one week while they were learning about "how families help each other." We discussed it at home and ways we can all help out at home. Helping Mommy bake, emptying the dishwasher etc. Well one day I ran to get the mail from the car I had already told Corbin he couldn't help because he had taken his shoes and socks off on the trek home. I hear him start screaming and crying "Families aren't MEAN to each other, they HELP each other!"

* Grayson has a few cute words his mispronounces "goss" for Gross, got him on video saying "elebator" (elevator) while playing with a bulldozer. He asks "Where are we?" "Where we going" if we are going somewhere. He asks like 20 times all the way to school everyday!

* Grayson loves looking for the "landmarks" to show we are almost home. He loves looking at the boat and jet skis and screams "jet skis" every time we pass on the way off Anderson Mill Rd. Then once we get by Cedar Park High school we are really almost home and there is the Cedar Park Tower and he screams "Tower ommm!"(home)

*This morning Corbin was so excited because we got to go together just Mommy and Corbin because poor Grayson was sick! (Wouldn't you know he has his two year doctor appointment today and cannot get his vaccines because hes sick!) Corbin kept saying "Just Mommy and Corbin today!" We even got to get a special treat at Starbucks! :)

* Grayson and Corbin love the Power Rangers thanks to these toys that Grayson got for his birthday! We have watched a few grueling episodes with horrid acting! Grayson loves it and says "GO RANGERS!" when he's watching it! :)
* UPDATE: On the way to school this morning Feliz Navidad came on the radio and Corbin asked me "Mommy why are they signing that the Mommy is hot?!"
