Corbin's surgery and new sleeping arrangements

Waiting with Daddy to have the nurse come in and tell us about pre-op procedures. They never came... until the doctor came and wanted to take Corbin back and we said "the nurse never came." So we had to do the pre-op paperwork really fast. I love this picture! My boys looks so cute together!

Corbin had quite an eventful Friday morning. We had to be at the surgery center to check in at 6 am so Jason and I had to wake up at 4:30, NOT FUN! We woke Corbin up right before we left and got him dressed.

We had to wait to have Corbin's surgery because Dr. Scholl had to do the same procedure on little girl before they did Corbin. The nurse gave Corbin some stickers so when it was his time to take him back he was perfectly content having the nurse hold him while he looked at his stickers!
It was amazing that there were about 7 or 8 other kids around Corbin's age who were all having the same procedure done. That just goes to show you how drug resistant some of these superbugs are.

While Corbin was in the recovery room Dr. Scholl came to talk to us. During the procedure Dr. Scholl discovered Corbin had a right ear infection. He had just finished his 10 day antibiotics for a double ear infection the night before. So this surgery was a blessing in disguise. Corbin had had 6 ear infections in a matter of six months so it was much needed!


For the past week or more Corbin has been sleeping in his own bed. When we went to the first ENT appointment the nurse told us Corbin couldn't eat past midnight. I knew right then and there that he would HAVE to start sleeping in his bed and lets face it... IT was time! Corbin was still waking up at most 5 or 6 times a night to nurse. Every time he gets in bed with us the first thing he wants to do is nurse. So I have also stopped nursing Corbin as well. He is doing pretty well with both transitions. A few nights were rough and he woke up for several hours crying and I would have to give him a bottle. However, last night he slept all night without waking up! I had to go in and check on him twice to make sure he was ok.

The next thing to phase out on our list... Bottles. I didn't want to do all three transitions at once. So I will be working on phasing out the bottles this summer because in the toddler class at daycare he can only have sippy cups. He loves sippy cups but mainly only with water in them.

Corbin has also started to sign "eat","all done", "baby," and "more." He is hilarious with Kylie and calls her "baby" sometimes!

Corbin's Ear tube surgery

Next Friday April 24, Corbin will be having surgery to place drainage tubes in his ears. I am very nervous because our sweet boy has to be put under general anesthesia. The surgery only lasts 10-15 minutes but it will be the longest of my life... knowing Corbin has to be put under at such a young age. Gosh now I can imagine what my parents went through when I had heart surgery at three weeks old and was three months premature. Talk about super scary!

On Sunday night he did the tale tale sign for an ear infection, woke up screaming in the middle of the night several times. I knew he had an ear infection complete with a fever. Jason stayed home with him Monday and he decided we would just wait and see if he got better. When he didn't I stayed home with him on Tuesday and took Corbin to the doctor. He ended up with a double ear infection. I knew right when she was putting the ear instrument in (don't know its name) and he tried to pull it out right away, I knew he had one. Poor little guy! Dr. Owens said "OK we need an Ear, nose and throat referral (ENT) as this is his sixth ear infection in 6 months." Jason and I had been waiting to hear that! I think ear drainage problems run in my family. I had to have ear tubes and so did my sister and my niece did too.


Please pray that the surgery goes well and our sweet little baby is watched over while in surgery.

Corbin's school easter egg hunt

Yesterday Corbin's school had an Easter egg hunt and parade. It was so exciting because Jason's manager has a one year old too and told Jason to have fun and come to the Easter parade/hunt! So it was great that Jason got to come too! I know he hates missing out on things that happen in Corbin's life because of not being able to get off work! So we were so happy Daddy could come!

Jason and I have come to love Corbin's school. He absolutely loves his teachers, Ms. Flor and Ms. Lupe. Corbin cries when Mrs. Flor leaves the room. It makes me feel good that he feels so secure at school. His teachers tell me all the time how happy he is and how he just talks all day long.

Happy (Early) Mother's Day To Me

On Saturday Jason went to his Dad's house to get some rocks for our herb garden. He was gone about four hours and I was honestly starting to get kind of mad. He had the CRV which has our car seat and I wanted to go run some errands. Then when he finally comes home Corbin and I race to the garage to see Daddy! Then I hear a weird noise which I thought was coming from our CRV... its been making weird noises. Jason just looks at me with this sly smile and says "I don't know!" I knew he was up to something with the way he said that! So I walk outside and see Jason's Dad with a trailer hitched to their suburban. Jason says to me "Happy Early Mother's Day!" He told me that he wanted to surprise me because I had a VERY stressful week at work. An unfortunate event had happened and it left me not being able to sleep.

Corbin and Mommy! He conveniently took a nap while I helped Jason haul the furniture to the backyard. If you know me at all helping move furniture is a HUGE deal as I am a "weakling!"

We have a walker!

Corbin was helping Jason, with a favorite activity... helping push the laundry basket from the laundry room to our bedroom. Once in our room he then took three steps from our armoire to the laundry basket! Jason and I just stood there shocked! Then later on in the morning Corbin took about five steps by himself!

We are so proud of you Corbin Michael! We love you!

P.S. Yesterday we had Longhorn Lawns put new sod in our front and backyard! I guess once you saw the sod... you knew it was time to walk! (A few weeks ago we found out our sweet boy absolutely LOVES being outside! I then told Jason we had to redo the grass so Corbin and I could spend a LOT of time outside this summer!)

P.P.S. Corbin said "car" today for the first time while playing with a car in the bath! Imagine someone from New Jersey saying "cah" thats how Corbin says it! CUTE!

During spring break my sister Carrie, her girls, and my brother Sutton all home. We've had lots of family time. We went to Chuckie E. Cheese, Zilker Park and we rode the train, and spent a lot of fun time playing at Mimi and Boompa's house.

Mommy really can't wait for summer so we can play together all day everyday! I can't wait to be with Mommy and play at home too! This week while outside at my parents house we discovered Corbin loves being outside...the only hard part is he can't walk yet and he wants to crawl everywhere. We will get there soon enough. He took three steps by himself a few times between my sister and I.

When Mommy gave it to me I said "thank you!"

Lately Corbin has learned a lot of new words... "ball" being the favorite. The other morning when I got up for work at 5, Corbin got up and said "ball" the first thing! This morning he found some bubbles I had on a shelf and we were playing with them. I said "bubbles" and then I would pop them and say "pop." Well our little guy picked up the word "bubble" after I said it a few times.
Corbin also says "thank you." It is so fun to hear his little voice as he learns new words!

On the walking front...Corbin still isn't walking. But according to our pediatrician the average is 13-15 months. On Monday night as Jason and I were making dinner we notice Corbin was standing all by himself. He has learned to balance his weight on his feet. Then on Thursday afternoon when I picked Corby up from school he took two steps towards the daycare director. He still isn't that confident yet. Jason and I feel like it won't be long until we are chasing after him.

We are also trying a lot of new foods and get Corbin to possible be something other than the 5th percentile for weight. The other night I was eating a Boca burger and gave some to Corbin, well he wolfed it down. Then Friday night at Red Robin we ordered Corbin a Boca burger and I snuck some of my real hamburger , he didn't like it at all. E-ma, Jason's mom is proud, because she a vegetarian. Corbin also loves green olives and Mommy's zucchini bread.
