Introducing... Grayson James Ziaja!!!

Little did I know that when I wrote my last post, Jason and I would be meeting our son for the first time in a few hours. After my doctors appointment on Tuesday, Jason and I went home to our house so Jason could work on some work stuff from home. My mom watched Corbin for us so that I could really rest at home and I took a nap for a few hours. When I woke up we headed to my Mom's house at 3:00. We were hanging out at my Mom's house and I was laying on the couch and playing with Corbin.

I started getting a headache and asked Jason to go get me some Tylenol. My mom and sister, Carrie, said it probably wouldn't hurt to take my blood pressure because a headache is a sign of high blood pressure. My mom has high blood pressure and is on medication so she has a blood pressure machine at home so I took my blood pressure. Oh goodness what a shock it was to see that number pop up on the screen...177/111! My sister Carrie was standing behind me watching the results and yelled at me to GO LAY DOWN IMMEDIATELY! I started crying and freaking out and Jason quickly called the doctor on call. The doctor said to get to the hospital immediately! When we got there at 6:00 I was told to change into a gown and they hooked me up to the fetal monitor, contraction monitor and blood pressure. The nurse checked my cervix and said I was about 2-3 centimeters dilated. Dr. Kuhlmann was actually at the hospital here and came and checked me. He said they would watch my blood pressure and also see if my labor was progressing and to see if I was in active labor. Well an hour later my blood pressure was better but I was actually 3-4 centimeters dilated and was having contractions about every three to four minutes that I didn't really feel (I felt slight back lower back pain and some stomach tightening but thats about it)! Dr. Kuhlmann said "Well, I think its time to have a baby!"

I was super nervous about having a repeat c-section. Everything went well, but I was shaking so bad because of nerves/adrenaline. Before the surgery the anesthesiologist gave me a spinal and I was kind of freaking out because I could feel them scrubbing my tummy with the iodine to sterilize it etc and I kept asking them "UMM Should I feel this?!?! " Before with Corbin I had already had the epidural so I was already numb and I was scared I was going to be able to feel them start the c-section. The anesthesiologist reassured me that they used these HUGE tweezery things and pinch you VERY hard and if you feel it and say "ouch" then there is a big problem and they will adjust the medications. He said if they did it to a person who wasn't numb they would jump a million miles off the table! I didn't feel anything thank goodness! This time around with the c-section I could actually feel the pressure etc when they were getting Grayson out. (with Corbin they ended up giving me more medication because the numbness of the epidural had worn off slightly so I was OUT OF IT and didn't feel much!) When they pushed on my abdomen to get him out, WOW it was hard to breathe! I was also awake this time while they stitched me back up which was kind of weird. I kept shaking so badly because of adrenaline and anesthesia. Last time as I mentioned before they gave me too much anesthesia and I was out of it and fell asleep when I had Corbin, so it was weird to be awake.

Grayson James Ziaja was born November 24 at 9:44 pm and was 6 lbs 15 oz and 18 3/4 inches long. He had some fluid in his lungs and he had to be monitored for a while and I really didn't get to see him until 1:00 a.m and that was to nurse him and then he had to go back to the nursery to be monitored. Grayson shares his birthday with his uncle Justin and aunt Tori. Apparently our children also like to be born around family members birthdays! Corbin was born the day before my Dad's birthday and today is my Mom's birthday! Happy Birthday Mom!

Corbin has come by twice to see Grayson and his Mommy and Daddy. He has adjusted a ton better than I would have thought! He keeps saying "baby!" and he came and sat next to us. He also gave Grayson a kiss and patted his head today and said "Bye Brother!" OH man Jason and I got teary eyed when he said that! We get to leave the hospital tomorrow morning and can't wait to be home with our family!

Dr. appoinments and sleeping habits

Yesterday Jason came with me to my doctors appointment because we were getting an ultrasound to see how Grayson is doing. Well we get there and the nurse takes my blood pressure and was like "Do you have a headache?" I said "No, why?" She said "Well your blood pressure is 150/90, the highest its ever been this pregnancy." So then we go into the exam room and I am expecting to get checked to see if I am dilated and effaced at all. Two weeks ago at 35 weeks they did my group B strep test and checked me I didn't have any progress at all. Well Dr. Kuhlmann came in and listened to Grayson and he sounded great and just asked if I had been having any contractions and I said NOPE! So he didn't check me and told us to come to the ultrasound room. Grayson looked great on the ultrasound. He is estimated to be about almost 7 lbs and it was confirmed again that Grayson is definilty a boy! Jason was like "Oh theres his gibblets!" I was told to go home and LAY DOWN yesterday and really try to REALLY rest the remainder of this pregnancy. Dr. Kuhlmann told us we had to come back today and do a non-stress test and we have to go Friday to Labor and delivery at St. David's for a non-stress test as well because the doctors office is closed. Then if everything looks good then I will go back Monday. If something were to take a turn for the worse then Dr. Kuhlmann would come and deliver Grayson probably Friday. If not, then he is going to try and get us to 39 weeks and hopefully, Grayson won't have any lung/breathing problems.

The non-stress test today went great and my blood pressure was better 130/90. Jason came as well because Jason asked yesterday if I should be driving and Dr. K said I could only drive short distances so Jason drove me. Dr. Kuhlmann told us that Grayson should be in the text books he was moving so much during the test! Jason and I were just watching my stomach and he would jab out his butt or arm! I am a little nervous about this kid! Corbin was soo mellow inutero and he still is! I think we may have a high maintenance kid on our hands!

My family has been amazing through all this. My sister Carrie and my mom have been more than generous and have watched Corbin for me the past two days. He loves going to Mimi's now because every time he comes over she gives him a matchbox car and he is obsessed with them!

I am starting to wonder how Corbin is going to be with a sibling. I was holding my niece, Morgan, who is 8 months younger than Corbin and he did NOT like it one bit. I know having a sibling will be great for Corbin but I think there is going to be a LOT of jealousy at the beginning. He kept running up to me if I was paying attention to Morgan and saying "Mommy" and wrapping his arms around my legs.

I am trying to toughen up on Corbin's sleeping habits. I have been really bad about going in there and sleeping with him. We blew up an air mattress in Corbin's room a few weeks ago and I have been going in there to sleep with him in the middle of the night. I am starting to feel slightly guilty about having another baby and have been trying to soak up as much "Corbin time" as possible. After talking to my mom yesterday she was like "He should be able to self soothe himself back to sleep and he is too old to not be able to get himself to go back to sleep himself!" So I am happy to say that I did NOT go in there last night at all, yes he slept on the floor in front of his door ALL night long and that KILLED ME, but the good news is he woke up in a great mood this morning!

Happy four year anniversary!

Today I have been married to my best friend for four years! Wow! I can't believe its been four years already! I am so blessed to be married to you, Jason!

I love you Jason and can't wait to share a the next 80 years or more with you! :)

Today is Jason's 28th Birthday! Corbin and I very excited to celebrate Daddy's birthday! We are going to go to Chuy's so Jason can get his yummy New Mexican martini! Corbin has been yelling "BIRTHDAY!" for weeks! Whenever he sees candles he screams "BIRTHDAY!" We are going to come home and have a yummy birthday cake from Central Market afterwards!

Today is my first day on bed rest... I never expected to have to be on bed rest for Jason's birthday or our anniversary which is Thursday. Luckily I am on modified bed rest and my doctor thought that being home and just relaxing would be good for me. I went to the doctor today and had a non-stress test where they monitored Grayson's heartbeat and he sounds great! My blood pressure was a lot better too... resting has done wonders! I just feel super guilty because I really want to be spending this time with Corbin before Grayson comes. However, Jason and I decided to have him still go to daycare because we are 1) paying for it! and 2) and I really need to focus on being healthy and making sure Grayson is alright! 3) Corbin loves going to "school" and seeing his best friend, Nevin!

Bed Rest here I come

I went to see my doctor on Monday. I had already lined my substitute up to come two days this week because Dr. K told me to taper off work after this week and to plan on going on bed rest starting Monday. So that is the plan right now. Dr. Kuhlmann just doesn't want my blood pressure to rise anymore and have to deliver Grayson earlier than he needs to be here. He said since I am 35 weeks that a huge milestone but he wants to keep Grayson out of the NICU and be healthy, so bed rest is the way to do that. If anything were to change for the worse with my blood pressure in the next few weeks the option would be to deliver Grayson early.

I go back next Monday to have an Non-stress test where they hook me up to the fetal monitor and see how Grayson is doing for length of time. Then the week after I am having an ultrasound to see how big our little guy is. I am looking forward to seeing him again and Jason is coming to see him too! ;)

I am just sad that I have to start bed rest on Jason's birthday and then on the 19th its our 4 year anniversary. I really want to go out and celebrate!

Bed Rest?

I went to see Dr. Kuhlmann again. My blood pressure was 140/90 again. I now am required to go to the doctor every week now because of my high blood pressure. There wasn't any protein in my urine, which is good, and I have no swelling in my hands or feet (these are a few telltale signs of preeclampsia.)

During that appointment Dr. Kuhlmann had to reposition the Doppler a few times which kinda freaked me out. He reassured me that everything was ok with Grayson but his head was staying in one position and he was having a hard time getting a good heart beat reading.

Dr. Kuhlmann did tell me that probably after next week I am going to have to go on bed rest, which can help lower my blood pressure. I had blood work done today too though so if something shows up that's questionable, bed rest maybe sooner. I guess I will be ok with that because at least I will almost be 36 weeks at that time. I just really don't want to stop working. I had planned on working until Grayson comes. Bed rest would be VERY hard on me because I don't like to be told I can't do something and I start freaking out about household chores that aren't getting done etc. Since Jason has been home today he has made me stay on the couch! I love my husband!

Our sweet boy cracked Jason and I up this morning! He has started saying "that nice!" We were getting him ready for school this morning and Jason had this show on called "Sunrise Earth." It shows different sunrises in exotic/cool places around the world. Corbin all the sudden said "Wow, that nice!" We were so proud he put together 3 words!

C-section scheduled

I went to the doctor this afternoon for a checkup. I am 33 weeks! The bad news is that my blood pressure was 140/90. I have seen this before! The nurse was like "Oh Dr. Kuhlmann is going to make you stop working!" I was like "GRREAAT!" (I was a little worried about that because I want to work on until I have the little guy!) Luckily Dr. Kuhlmann told me to rest as much as possible and then see what happens next week.

I really hope I don't end up with preeclampsia again! The sad thing is that people typically get preeclampsia with their first child. With my luck I will have it with both! (High blood pressure runs in my family!) I have to go back to the doctor again on Monday to get my blood pressure redone and do another urine sample to make sure I don't have protein in my urine.

I totally forgot to ask Dr. Kuhlmann about the scheduled c-section because at my last visit he told me that someone would call to schedule it. I called on my way home and the nurse said the c-section was already scheduled! NO ONE CALLED US! I was a little mad about that!

On a more positive note our c-section is scheduled for December 9th at 9:30! We can't wait to meet our little Grayson!
